Proposal for Summer League changes to be voted on at next LTA Fixture meeting in Mid Feb
To All Club Captains
Following on from my comments at the Winter league Fixture meeting, Farnsfield TC would like to propose (again but for the final time!) that the Summer league format be changed to the following:
✓ A team shall consist of 3 pairs
✓ Each pair shall play all 3 pairs from the opposing team
✓ Each rubber to be 16 games making a match total of 48 games per match for each pair and a total of 144 games in total
✓ Winning team will be the team with the most games at the end of the match
Just the same as the current Winter League but with 16 games per rubber instead of 12 games per rubber.
Reasons for Proposal
✓ Each match will last approximately 3 hours
✓ Each round of matches should finish at approximately the same time, resulting in less time waiting around as in the case with playing 2 sets per rubber
✓ Every game counts towards the match score
✓ More matches than ever are being conceded as a result of difficulties faced by captains in getting teams together (or there are more requests for changing the date of the matches) We know that match dates should not be changed unless for inclement weather, according to League rules, but this is happening because clubs would rather play their matches and not win by others conceding. A shorter format would help this situation.
✓ Encourage more players to play in matches (including attracting younger players), given that match time will be shorter and can be predicted more accurately.
